From AA Royal Campground, Niagara Falls, NY
So Sunday morning we decided to visit the Buffalo Gardens. We set the GPS and off we went. One little detour because of construction and soon we were there.
The building is divided into 12 different areas and types of plants. There is a small outdoor garden, but the bulk of the presentation is all enclosed in glass greenhouses.
Back at the coach we decided to make another trip to the Canadian side for night viewing of the lighted falls and the fireworks show. The lights were really interesting and the fireworks drew a HUGE crowd. My photo attempts were rather disastrous because I did not have a tripod and the lack of light was just not conducive to a good photo, as evidenced by the photo below.
On Monday, we drove over to Lockport to take a cruise on the Erie Canal, including a trip through Locks 34 and 35. A look at our boat.
Approaching the first Lock.
That wall in front of us in holding back the water from the second lock. Each lock will raise us up by 25 feet.
Entering the Lock.
We were joined in the two locks by this guy making a kayak trip on the canal from Buffalo to Albany. His supplies and provision are in the front of his kayak and in the rear is a fold up bicycle and trailer wheels that attach to the kayak and he can pull the kayak with the bike. Quite an effort!! Certainly past my abilities.
We also visited the Market Street Art Center, with studios of various local artist. The most interesting piece of art was this statue constructed of thin strips of metal from beverage cans. I just loved it. Maybe I could do something like this... NAW!!
From the Art Center we went to the First Presbyterian Church to view the stained glass windows in the church, most of which were done by Tiffany and Co. in the late 1800's and early 1900's. The church was built in 1850.
The colors and texture of the glass was absolutely beautiful.
More adventure planned for tomorrow.
I'm the guy in the kayak! If you are curious how my trip went, check out http://velogeur.blogspot.com/
